This cocktail is for those who love a good Manhattan, but want it with a twist. The addition of Benedictine and maraschino to the whiskey and sweet vermouth may be minuscule, but they brings an element of flavor in that is just right for peaking the taste buds' interest.
This pre-1930's drink typically calls for bourbon, which is a very good choice. I like Maker's Mark or Buffalo Trace here because they balance the sweet side of the drink. Also, just as in the Manhattan, I strongly suggest you try this out with a rye whiskey, with Sazerac Rye possibly being the most appropriate for today's Mardi Gras parties.
